The Effectiveness of Solar Panels in Schools

Solar panels have been around for a long time, but as energy prices rise and technology advances, more and more people are considering using them. There are many factors to consider when investing in solar panels for your school. The amount of energy that can be produced by installed solar panels is dependent upon many variables including climate and location. No matter where your school is based, solar power can be adapted to work for your site.

Solar panels are becoming more affordable, as the cost of producing solar energy has fallen dramatically over the past few years.

It's now more viable than ever to introduce solar panels to schools. This can help reduce costs associated with operating school buildings, while also providing students with valuable lessons in sustainability and renewable resources.

What are the factors to consider?

There are many factors to consider such as the cost, size of the system, location of the school and incentives from your utility company or government. DW Energy’s team can carry out a survey on your site and provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.

As mentioned above, one of the most important things is to consider what size system you will need and the location of the panels. This will depend on several factors, including:

  • Whether you’ll be fitting a battery storage system - The larger your battery bank is, the more energy it can store when there is not much demand, such as at weekends. This also means that when there is less sun available during evenings or cloudy days, there will be plenty of energy stored and ready to use.
  • Location of your school - The best place to fit solar panels is on a south-facing roof. We can identify the ideal location and ensure you will still receive enough sunlight and energy, even if it’s impossible to fit the south-facing panels.

Solar panels are more efficient in sunny areas. Sunlight is always available during the day, but how sunny your area is will affect how much power you can produce.

Solar panel size depends on the amount of roof space you have available and the type of building materials used (i.e. glass or metal). The size requirements depend on these factors and how much electricity needs to be generated for each month's usage estimates based upon average temperatures for that region over several years' time periods, such as summer months versus winter months when sunlight isn't as strong due to shorter days.

The cost of installing solar panels will vary depending on the type of system being installed. Panels can be purchased individually or as part of a larger integrated system that includes products such as batteries and inverters to help manage energy production and storage.

The first step in determining the cost for your school is determining how much electricity you use. This will allow us to calculate how many panels are needed for your site. Once this has been determined, it's time for an estimate. Our team has experience and knowledge in installing these systems, ensuring they will be fitted safely and in the most effective manner.

Solar panels are a great way to generate renewable energy, and can be adapted to suit your school's needs. Whilst it can appear like a lot to consider, the DW Energy team are always on hand to offer support and advice, making the process as smooth as possible. Plus, it will be a fantastic inspiration for students to consider how to utilise renewable energy in the future!
