Completing a large and complex three-building commercial solar build

Overview

Linford Wood was a large commercial solar PV project delivered for a PPA funder that helps commercial landlords install solar across their portfolios with no upfront capital cost.

DW Energy did not design the system, but was appointed to build and fully manage the large scale installation across three active commercial buildings at Sunrise Parkway.

The project totalled approximately 415 kWp, with more than 750 panels installed across the site. With a six-week programme, live buildings and a complex roof layout, this was a project where planning, logistics and safe delivery mattered just as much as the installation itself.

The challenge

This was not a straightforward single roof install.

The project covered three separate buildings, each with its own access points, roof layout and working areas. The buildings remained active throughout, so DW Energy had to plan around site users, deliveries, parking, material movement and safe access.

The roofs include multiple sections, rooflights, existing plant and other features, meaning the panels had to be installed neatly around the building layout rather than treated as a simple repeat design.

The timeline added further pressure. More than 750 panels needed to be installed, connected and commissioned within six weeks, across a live commercial site with tight logistical requirements.

The solution

DW Energy provided full project delivery, taking responsibility for the build, site coordination, health and safety and commissioning process.

The works included roof mounted solar installation, cable containment, inverter installation, switchgear, distribution board works, submain cabling, metering, testing and final commissioning. By managing these elements from start to finish, DW Energy kept the project moving safely and efficiently while working around the demands of an active business park.

Client testimonial

DW Energy did an excellent job delivering the Linford Wood project for us. This was a large commercial solar build across three occupied buildings, with more than 750 panels and a demanding six week programme, so careful planning and dependable site management were essential.
The team took the agreed design and turned it into a completed installation while managing access, logistics, health and safety, testing and commissioning. It was a challenging project, but DW Energy kept things under control and delivered safely within the required timeframe.
Their approach gave us confidence throughout, and we would have no hesitation in using DW Energy again for complex commercial solar work.

The result

Delivered within six weeks

DW Energy successfully completed the installation within the six week programme, giving the delivery confidence needed for a large PPA funded solar project.

For a project of this scale, the timeline was a key part of the achievement. More than 750 panels were installed across three active buildings without the benefit of a simple roof layout or empty site conditions.

Closing summary

Linford Wood is a great example of DW Energy’s ability to deliver complex commercial solar projects where scale, logistics and site management are central to success.

By managing the build across three active buildings and completing the installation within six weeks, DW Energy helped move a large PPA funded solar project from approved design into completed site delivery, generating over 405,000+MWh per annum.
